Assisted Care
The purpose of Assisted Care Program is to provide financial assistance to needy sisters and brothers, who are members of the Order of the Eastern Star in Georgia, in the payment of expenses relating to medical care, medical equipment, assisted care and nursing home care. The Assisted Care Committee is administered by Elected Grand Trustees who manage, direct, and oversee the Program.
At one time the Grand Chapter had a home for aged members. Due to the increasing cost of maintaining the facility it was not financially feasible to continue with the home. On February 9, 1997 at a special called session of the Grand Chapter of Georgia, the members voted to sell the home. This was accomplished in October 1997. The money from the sale of the home and the money on hand for the care of the members and upkeep of the home were combined to form the Assisted Care program.
To apply, the Chapters submit the appropriate paperwork which has been completed by the applicant and has been verified by the chapter to the Assisted Care Committee. The committee then reviews, discusses, and takes the proper action on the request for assistance.
The approval for financial assistance is determined by the evaluation of the severity of medical financial needs versus total financial income. The Trustees attempt to assist as many needy sisters or brothers as funds permit. Renewal applications are required yearly.
If you are an OES member in Georgia and need financial assistance for medical expenses, contact your chapter secretary for an application.
